PTO Meeting Thursday 9/10/09 at 7:00 pm
Okay moms and dads, students of all grades…the holidays are over (for now)and it’s time to get busy on preparing for PSSA testing, (for most) and getting involved in your school and what’s going on in it!
By the way, on Thursday before the holiday, MSE had their first practice fire drill and it was perfect. All the children safely walked out of the building wihout incident and all staff proceeded in a very professional manner. Thank you MSE staff, teachers and Mr. Baker, our school Principal!
Now, onto business:
We on the PTO are extremely excited about our first evening meeting which will be held inless than two days! Yes, that’s right! On Thursday, September 10th, 2009 at 7:00 pm at the Middle Smithfield Elementary School we will be holding our first evening meeting. This is a crucial meeting for us as we introduce ourselves to all who attend, explain what our roles are in the school and what that means for our children.
I am the Corresponding Secretary, Alicia Lopez. You will all meet me on Thursday evening and soon we will have a wonderful word from our PTO President Ellen Komorowski posted right here on the MSE PTO Blog. Hopefully, all of our board members will be able to contribute a word or two.
I introduced myself early (and here) because I just want to explain something. Many of us on the PTO have multiple children and work. I so happen to be a work from home mom with 4 children under my roof and I understand as most of you do, what it feels like to have papers tossed in your face, “sign this”…”i need money for that”…”i need money for this trip”…”i’m selling this for school”…and in all four different directions at once! It can be overwhelming! I have one in Middle Smithfield, two in Lehman and one in North, so you can imagine the different meetings and programs, sports, fundraisers and school trips happening all at the same time. As a matter of fact, the meeting for the 8th grade trip to Washington DC is on Thursday evening at 6:30 and I can’t go, so I have to send my hubby instead so I can fulfill my obligation at MSE.
You might be wondering why I am explaining this all to you. Well, because all of the women on the PTO board can completely sympathize with what I just said, uhm wrote; and because they do, we can understand you. We know your time is valuable, that you need t
o have someone to count on at school knowing that we aren’t just asking for your money and wasting it frivolously, that we appreciate the hour you can give to helping one day or the effort you make by bringing your family to one of the events like fall bingo. If you have a concern, we are here to listen, we welcome your suggestions and we welcome your faces! So we invite you all to come and share a little snack with us on Thursday evening and help us kick off the year right, with confidence in your school, staff and PTO and by building a relationship that will last.
We are here for you and we want you to know that. If you have questions or comments, post them here or email us at msepto1@yahoo.com.
See you on Thursday sept. 10, 2009! And, remember that the yard sale is immediately following on Saturday September 12, 2009. Set up is 8am and there is no rain date.
